Dear friends in Christ,
Three years ago, our parish began a journey called Repair Our Church - Renew Our Hearts Capital Stewardship Campaign. Three years have passed, and we have done quite well with the first part of the campaign. We have completed: necessary repairs to the church campus, restoration has been performed on certain parts of our buildings, and the bills have been paid as the journey progresses. We did well, thanks to the generosity and commitment of many parishioners. Furthermore, we did well because we had a vision, a spiritual renewal of the entire parish, which brings us to the second part of our campaign logo, the Renew Our Hearts.
For the past couple months, the Pastoral Council of St. Mary, in conjunction with our sister parish, St. Paul Campus Parish, has been prayerfully reflecting on an evangelization program to bring about a spiritual renewal of our parish and community. After much prayer and discussion, we have chosen the program called Disciples in Mission: an Evangelization Experience.
What is the Disciples in Mission? It is a pastoral process that integrates the Sunday liturgies, small faith-sharing groups, catechesis, family activities, teen groups, planning, and follow-up activities into a coordinated parish-wide experience of evangelization. It fosters spiritual renewal by placing the missionary dimension at the heart of the community of faith, thus transforming it by the power of the gospel.
Some of you who have reached the venerable senior status (we say this with love and respect for the age and wisdom!) might remember participating in the Renew Program. You may recall what a tremendous impact it had on the parishes and the community of faith! Disciples in Mission aims for the same effects.
