The parish music ministry encourages all to share their talents in the building up of the kingdom. The ability to read music is helpful, but not required, in any of the ensembles. Feel free to contact Dr. Brandon D. Spence, Director of Music and Liturgy, for rehearsal times, places and questions: bspence@stmarybr.org, (616) 240-4488, cell.
Adult Choir. Grades 8 and above are invited to participate! The adult choir sings traditional and contemporary styles of music drawn from the church’s sacred treasury.
Gregorian Chant. Church documents tell us that chant has “pride of place” within the liturgy. This choir sings chants of the liturgy drawn from the church’s official songbook, the Gregorian Missal. Official introits are the primary focus. If you love Latin and chant, then this group is for you!
Children’s Choir. Children grades four through eight are welcome! Songs well suited for children are the primary focus, yet all songs are in accord with Catholic tradition and teaching.
Children’s Bell Choir. Children grades four and beyond learn to Ring God’s praises with hand bells! Eight to thirteen individuals ring with this group. Voluntaries accompaniments to liturgical music are focus for this group.
Adult Bell Choir. Grades eight and beyond will comprise the membership of this ensemble. Like the Children’s Bell Choir, this group rings liturgical accompaniments and voluntaries, but takes its performance to the next level.
Cantors. The most specialized of music ministers, cantors lead the sung prayer of the assembly. Facility with correct diction and the music notation is extremely useful. Membership in this ministry is very select.
